Ciao a tutti volevo riportare qui alcune indicazioni per utilizzare il client di messaggistica istantanea Empathy, come si legge dall’output di pacman:

sudo pacman -Ss empathy
extra/empathy 2.28.2-1 (gnome-extra)
A GNOME instant messaging client using the Telepathy framework.

Per installarlo su Archlinux è sufficiente dare da terminale

sudo pacman -S empathy

Alcune features molto interessanti (prese dal sito ufficiale):

• Multi-protocol: Google Talk (Jabber/XMPP), MSN, IRC, Salut, AIM, Facebook, Yahoo!, Gadu Gadu, Groupwise, ICQ and QQ. (Supported protocols depend on installed Telepathy Connection Manager components.) Supports all protocols supported by Pidgin.
• File transfer for XMPP, and local networks.
• Voice and video call using SIP, XMPP, Google Talk and MSN.
• Some IRC support.
• Conversation theming (see list of supported Adium themes).
• Sharing and viewing location information.
• Private and group chat (with smileys and spell checking).
• Conversation logging.
• Automatic away and extended away presence.

Per poter chattare con uno dei protocolli citati sopra si devono però installare i backend che come si legge da qui Empathy’s FAQ sono:

• AIM: install telepathy-haze
• Jabber, Google Talk, XMPP: install telepathy-gabble
• local network (“Bonjour” – iChat-compatible): install telepathy-salut
• ICQ: install telepathy-haze
• IRC: install telepathy-idle, see below for more notes on IRC
• MSN: install telepathy-butterfly
• SIP: install telepathy-sofiasip, see below for more notes on SIP
• Yahoo!: install telepathy-haze

quindi per poter utilizzare la chat msn basta installare da terminale il pacchetto telepathy-butterfly dando

sudo pacman -S telepathy-butterfly

e ora si può utlizzare la chat msn anche da empathy.
